Amazon’s bid to buy Roomba maker iRobot is called off amid pushback in Europe

Article content

LONDON (AP) — Amazon called off its purchase of robot vacuum maker iRobot on Monday, blaming “undue and disproportionate regulatory hurdles” after the European Union signaled its objection to the deal.

The companies said in joint statement that they were disappointed but mutually agreed to terminate the acquisition. The deal faced antitrust scrutiny on both sides of the Atlantic, but most strongly in Europe, where regulators investigating competition concerns had been expected to issue a final decision by Feb. 14.

Why San Marzano Tomatoes Make The Best Sauce, According To A Master Pizza Maker

Freshly cooked Neapolitan margherita pizza

Freshly cooked Neapolitan margherita pizza – Melissa Gaman/Tasting Table

Excellent pizza sauce does not require a ton of ingredients or time, but it does require good tomatoes. According to pizza master Anthony Mangieri of Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City, the best sauce starts with Italian San Marzano tomatoes. Mangieri knows a thing or two about making excellent pizza, which led to Una being named the No. 1 pizzeria in the world by 50 Top Pizza for 2022.

Neapolitan pizza is not a heavily topped pizza with so many add-ons it’s hard to taste them all. Mangieri tells us that it is pretty much the opposite: “There should be a nice light coating of sauce. Maybe more if you aren’t adding cheese. It’s not about specific quantities but about creating balance and tasting each element on the pizza.” At Una, Mangieri keeps his sauce very simple, not even adding salt, instead seasoning the assembled pizza, so the tomato flavor is fresh, pure, and easier to pair with whatever goes on top. On a Neapolitan pizza, he adds, “The basic sauce is never cooked before going on the pizza. The idea is that it cooks in the oven and cooks and fuses together into a perfect balance.” Cooking the tomatoes would result in “a flavor that isn’t bright and popping,” Mangieri says.

So, only the best and most flavorful tomatoes will make the best sauce and pizza, and that all comes back to San Marzano tomatoes from Italy.

Director buys mountain bike maker out of administration

Director Ashley Ball has bought Halifax-based Orange Mountain Bikes and its frame manufacturing division, P. Bairstow, from administration.

Moving forwards the deal secures 30 jobs and will see Orange and Bairstow consolidate operations into one site, with Bairstow already closing its third-party engineering division.

Orange Bikes was founded in 1988 and has gone from strength to strength for well over thee decades, in the process becoming a cult brand within the mountain biking world, thanks to its distinctive designs, British-made frames and racing pedigree.

As with a number of businesses in the cycle sector, Orange experienced several challenges in recent years, largely as a result of the pandemic.

Ball said, “Restructuring the businesses was never going to be an easy process but the decision to do so has preserved the livelihoods of the people at the heart of the organisation, streamlined our operations and ensured the continued strength of the Orange Bikes brand and its products.”

Ball was advised by Leeds based J9 Advisory who assisted in structuring, funding and executing the transaction.

Johnny Abraham of J9 said, “To be honest, I had no idea how famous Orange Bikes was or what a tremendous following it has! Ash clearly has a huge passion for bikes and the Orange brand and wanted to do whatever it took to rescue the business. We are glad that we could provide the expertise required to rescue this well respected British brand. Thanks go out to TFG Capital and E Capital, together with BDO for their respective roles in completing this transaction.”

5 Best Website Builders for Small Business in January 2024

Why Small Businesses Should Avoid Free Website Builders

While it may seem cost effective at the time, free websites could actually cost you a lot more in the long-run.

1. Limited features

With a free website, you won’t have access to the same roster of features as you would with a premium package. With limited insights, analytics and ecommerce features, you’ll be more likely to miss out on potential customers, as you won’t be able to monitor or optimize your website in the same way that you would with a premium package.

2. Poor SEO

A free website is also more likely to tank your SEO, as they often don’t come with a personalized domain. Unlike premium packages, sites built using free website builder software automatically become part of the website builder‘s own site, making it notoriously difficult to rank well in search engines, like Google. This is because it takes longer to crawl and is more difficult to index, meaning less customers will find you.

3. Ads

And, unless you’re happy with your website advertising the software you used to build it — therefore telling your customers that the software you used to build it was free — we’d advised to opt for ad-free premium website builders, so that the only business your customers are focused on when they come to your website, is yours. Most website builders offer a scaling pricing plan, meaning you can find a plan that is affordable and best suited to your business’ needs.

Wix’s plans, for example, starts at just $16 a month, and includes some of the best features for small businesses our researchers have recorded to date. That’s why so many customers recommend it, and why it came out on top as our overall best website builder

How To Build A ChatGPT Chatbot For Your Website In Minutes

ChatGPT has blown everyone away over the past few months with its amazing AI conversation skills. Microsoft’s spending millions building it into Bing, but you can have your very own ChatGPT chatbot built into your website using a free plugin. And it will only take you a matter of minutes to get it up and running.

To build your own chatbot you’re going to need the following:

  • A WordPress-based website
  • An account with OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT – you can sign up for an account on the OpenAI website by clicking on the ‘API’ link at the top of the site
  • Jordy Meow’s AI Engine plugin, which is free to download and install on your WordPress site

How to create your AI chatbot

Once you’ve installed The AI Engine plugin, look for Meow Apps in the menu of your WordPress dashboard and select AI Engine from the sub-menu. Then click the Chatbot tab.

Here you’ll find lots of options that allow you to tweak the behavior and look of your chatbot. By the way, you can have more than one chatbot on different parts of your site, each of which is customizable.

One of the key settings here is the ‘context’ box. This allows you to give the AI a personality. I’ve built this chatbot for my tech help website, BigTechQuestion.com, so I’ve asked it to be a friendly, creative helper that explains technical jargon to the readers.

If you were running a website for a comedy venue, you might want your chatbot to be more jokey and light-hearted with customers. If you’re putting it on an educational website aimed at children, you might

Simply put, you will have little to no organic search traffic if you have no visibility in the SERPs. The result will be the same, even if you have a great website. This article will explain the steps needed to boost your Google Search Engine Ranking.

You must also be curious about this information: how long does it take to improve one’s position on Google? Let us examine this question in greater detail.

How Much Time does it Take to Enhance Google Rankings?
