High Plains Housing Development earns $20,000 El Pomar Foundation grant
El Pomar Foundation approves $91,000 to organizations in the North region
High Plains Housing Development Corporation, a builder of low to moderate-income housing in Greeley and Weld County, was recently the recipient of a $20,000 grant from a Colorado Springs-based foundation.
High Plains Housing was one of 11 businesses, organizations or municipalities in northern Colorado to receive a total of $91,000 from the El Pomar Foundation in May.
The El Pomar Foundation is a general purpose foundation that contributes more than $25 million annually through grants to nonprofit organizations and government equivalents throughout Colorado according to its website.
The money for High Plains Housing’s grant will go toward the StarRise Apartments at the North Village Campus in Greeley.
The other grant recipients were:
- City of Fort Collins, $25,000 for renovation to the Carnegie Center for Creativity;
- Colorado Pet Pantry in Boulder, $5,000 for pet food;
- Four Mile Fire Protection District in Boulder, $10,000 for fire shelters;
- Friends of Lackota Animal Sanctuary in Fort Collins, $1,000 for direct care of horses;
- Kiva Center in Boulder, $5,000 for experiential learning programs;
- Mother House, Inc. in Boulder, $5,000 for homelessness support programs for mothers;
- Rocky Mountain Raptor Program in Fort Collins, $5,000 for a rehabilitation program;
- Rocky Mountain Riding Therapy in Boulder, $2,500 for direct care of horses;
- Thrive – Transformation at Work in Lafayette, $5,000 in general operating support;
- YMCA Boulder County, $7,500 for Persimmon Early Learning Child Care and Preschool.
The El Pomar Foundation was founded by Spencer and Julie Penrose in 1937. The competitive grant process is the foundation’s primary vehicle for organizations to receive funding, according to a news release on the grant awards.
The organizations awarded money this spring received grants from four different funding sources.
